Petition
We the undersigned oppose the opening of a new Sainsburys supermarket on 2-4 Gloucester Road.
Background information
Gloucester Road is a nationally recognised and applauded for its unique mix of independent shops but this not something that we can take for granted.
Construction of a supermarket here will inevitably affect local businesses right in the middle of this recession. If we lose them, we won't get them back.
This proposed supermarket has crept under the radar and has only come to light due to an alcohol licensing application:

The council will meet on the 1st of July to discuss this application.
All local councillors pledged to support local businesses - we need to get them to stick to their promises.
