Petition

To ask the Bristol City Council Public Rights of Way & Greens Committee when it meets on the 26th April to save the THREE trees in Friary Road from being cut down to make way for a footpath.

Background information

The trees were planted nearly 30 years ago on the bank beside 111 Berkeley Road in Friary Road. They are much admired. The Prunus has such lovely flowers in the Spring, the Rowan Tree berries in the Autumn and the Silver Birch looks beautiful all year.

The Church of St Bonaventure’s, which has access along the lane, wants them cut down to make way for a footpath. There is already a footpath on the other side of the lane so why do they need another?

The lane is designated as a restricted byway (which means that it should not be used by vehicular traffic except for those with private rights) and the only traffic which uses it are the few people who have garages on the lane and those accessing the Church and Social Club car park. Parents also use the car park to drive their children to the school which is in Egerton Road.
