Petition
This service will cease to operate in its current form on 30th September 2009. We need your support to maintain our current focus on equalities through the lens of race.
Background information
We the undersigned petition the Bristol and South Gloucester Local Councils to continue supporting the BDA, the current accountable body, for the Bristol & South Gloucestershire Race, Equality and Human Rights Service (REHRS). The REHRS has been in existence for 3 years and its current cases load is predominantly made up of people that other services in this sub-region have failed to support adequately. Approximately 90% of the cases we deal with are from individuals from Black and other Minority Ethnic (B&ME) communities who have been discriminated against either by their employer, neighbour, or someone in position of power. We would like the REHRS to continue working with local government to deliver on their commitment under the RRAA 2000, other equality strands and on Local Area Agreement (LAA) targets. We want to eliminate race and other inequalities to improve the life chances. We want fair treatment for all people. We want to continue supporting the people others fail to support to create a more balanced and healthier society.
