Petition

The Petitioner requests that Bristol City Council does all that it can for

1. The repair and retention of existing street lamps as much as possible,

2. To maintain the current number of lamps

3. Whilst maintaining the existing yellow hue and not to install brighter, white lights

Background information

At present the Council strategy is to replace the lamps without regard for the current condition of the Victorian/period lamps and to replace them with modern lamps.

Provided sufficient people comment then there is a chance the old lamps will be repaired where possible. Modern tops might be added to the existing posts that are beyond repair. Modern lamps would be the last resort.

We ask the council to respect the importance of the remaining architectural history in Totterdown. The houses & streets in south Bristol are an important feature of the landscape for the wider city as well as for the people which live in the area. Whilst this is not a conservation area there is no reason to remove anymore of the character.
