Petition
The petitioner request that Bristol City Council increase the levels of funding available for the gritting of footpaths and cyclepaths around the city.
Background information
This petition has been set up in response to a number of incidents of cyclists falling off their bikes in icy weather on shared cycle/footpaths in the Southville/Ashton/CREATE centre area in early January- but could equally apply to any part of the city.
Cyclists and pedestrians are both vulnerable to slipping and falling in icy weather. In the case of cyclists, it is inconsistent with a 'Cycling City' for this to be allowed to occur. Older pedestrians in particular could badly hurt themselves if they fall.
The petition therefore asks for an increase in funding for gritting or other measures to allow the council to make paths safer.
