Petition

We, the undersigned, call upon Bristol City Council and Bristol's MPs to lobby major stakeholders in the BBC and the Government to reverse plans to move the production of 'Casualty' out of the city.

Background Information

From its outset, this drama has been closely associated with Bristol and its loss represents a serious downgrading in television output and reduction in status of BBC South West as a premier regional broadcaster.

At a time when commercial rivals are threatening to cut jobs and services in the West country, it is vital that the BBC in Bristol remains a centre of excellence - not just for factual programming but also in all aspects of the dramatic and performing arts.

This is a direct response to the recently reported plan to move the production of this prime-time television drama from its original and nationally recognised home - Bristol - to the City of Cardiff. It is feared that such a move could be the pre-cursor for further relocations of production teams which would damage the international reputation for excellence in broadcasting currently enjoyed by the BBC in Bristol.
