We, the undersigned, petition Bristol City Council to protect Ashton Vale Fields through compulsory purchase and to designate the area a wildlife reserve. We wish to see this land saved from further damage and developement to preserve Ashton Vales natural heritage.

Background information

This land is currently registered as a site of nature conservation interest, but has recently sustained substantial damage to hedgerows and waterways as a result of the destructive actions of the new owners. This marshy land supports many different species of flora and fauna, all of which stand to be lost from the area if further land clearance goes ahead. Wildlife recorded in this area include wintering breeding wildfowl and waders, woodpeckers, kingfishers, deer, bats, herons, birds of prey, sloworms and newts.
