Petition

The Petitioner....wishes to reject the proposed amalgamation of Summerhill Infant and Primary schools, on grounds that the pastoral and academic quality of education would suffer: Research now supports smaller educational provision as providing enhanced teaching practice and all round results, and the proposal of amalgamation threatens this current state of good practice.

Background information

As parents, teachers and local residents, we are dismayed that the happy and successful existing educational provision of the two Summerhill schools would be compromised by the proposal of amalgamation. Merging schools with ages ranging from 4 to 10/11 is associated with failing schools, or those that cannot fill headship posts. Summerhill Infants and Primary do not fit this description, and we feel the longstanding provision of single phase good quality holistic education should be defended.
