The petition calls upon Mayor George Ferguson and all councillors of Bristol City Council to make an amendment to its licensing policy with regards to Sexual Entertainment Venues.

The petition proposes that the licensing policy of Bristol City Council be amended to specify that the appropriate number of sexual entertainment venues in the city centre is nil.

Background information

The petition calls upon Mayor George Ferguson and all councillors of Bristol City Council to make an amendment to its licensing policy with regards to Sexual Entertainment Venues (A sexual entertainment venue is a place providing live entertainment such as a lap dancing club or a strip club).

The petition proposes that the licensing policy of Bristol City Council be amended to specify that the appropriate number of venues in the city centre is nil.

Whilst the Council cannot prevent organisations from making applications to establish these kinds of venues they are able to amend licensing policies to specify the appropriate number of these venues in particular areas. We therefore propose this minor amendment to licensing policy as a means to limit, reduce and potentially end the presence of sexual entertainment venues in our city centre.

A licensing amendment of this kind has been successfully proposed and achieved in Swansea. Please see the 'Swansea article' to the right
