We the undersigned believe that the three options given by Bristol City Council in their consultation on the future of care homes and day centres for the city are unacceptable. Coming on top of the privatisation of the home care service and drastic cuts in grants to the voluntary sector, all three options will further undermine services to the elderly and vulnerable in the city. We call on the city council to retain all these care homes and day centres 'in-house', giving a proper publicly provided and publicly accountable service to users and their families.
Background information
Bristol City Council has put forward three options for the future on "in house" residential homes and three for Day Serivces. Each of these options proposes some closure of "in house" services. An option of "no change" has not been included in the published options but a commitment given to "capture any alternative proposal that come forward as part of the process and present these with our findings back to cabinet in July".
